QAPI masterclass is a two-day, interactive, virtual course designed to help home health and hospice professionals build, manage, and strengthen an effective Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program. This interactive masterclass will explore how regulatory expectations and the five elements of QAPI guide an agency-wide approach to improving care and services. Participants will learn about and apply QAPI principles, methodologies and tools and apply them during various activities. Leadership involvement, staff engagement, and documentation requirements to support quality improvement and sustain progress will be addressed.
- Differentiate quality assurance and performance improvement and explain how they work together within an ongoing QAPI program.
- Compare QAPI expectations for home health and hospice, including applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements and the responsibilities of the governing body and agency leadership.
- Evaluate a QAPI plan using the five-element framework to identify strengths and gaps in program scope, leadership oversight, data monitoring, improvement projects, and systematic analysis.
- Analyze quality measures, audit findings, and stakeholder feedback to identify trends and prioritize improvement opportunities based on patient safety, frequency, severity, and organizational risk.
- Develop SMART improvement goals that specify the intended outcome, baseline, measurable target, and completion date.
- Apply appropriate improvement tools, including the Five Whys, fishbone diagrams, and Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles, to investigate process problems and design small tests of change.
