CHAP Hospice Standards of Excellence v.2.1.0 uploaded on 8/1/2023. This version differs from v.2.0.1 to remove to remove the standards related to mandatory COVID-19 vaccination of staff HIPC 11 - HIPC 18. These standards were removed related to the Final Rule (CMS-3415-F) in which CMS expired the vaccination requirements. 

Please note that the hospice standards manual has not been updated with the compliance program standards.  The compliance program standards were effective 8/1/2024.  Please download the Compliance Program standards document as an adjunct to the hospice standards manual.

CHAP Hospice Standards of Excellence are designed to give supportive care to people in the final phase of a terminal illness and focus on comfort and quality of life, rather than cure. Hospice programs generally are home-based, home being defined as where the patient lives including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, group homes, and inpatient hospice units as well as private homes. The philosophy of hospice is to provide support for the patient's emotional, social, and spiritual needs as well as medical symptoms as part of treating the whole person. These standards are deleted in July 2023 to reflect the CMS CMS Final Rule that expires the vaccination mandate.
